Representing almost 250,000 patients of the current 4m+ NHS waiting list, worsening 38% (67,000 patients) over the last 5 years, and for those patients still waiting over a year worsening 6500% over the same period, Gynaecology activity is a core speciality when trying to understand your local NHS hospital performance.
Predominantly (67%) elective activity, the c0.5 million episodes of care per year costing the taxpayer c£0.7 billion, and just 2.8% of the budgets of NHS General & Acute Hospitals, Hysterectomy (Abdominal and Laprascopic) remain the most popular IP procedure (27% of total) and Endoscopic resection of lesion of uterus and Insertion of prostaglandin pessary remain the most popular daycase procedures ( 28% of total)
