Orthopaedic NHS waiting list is nearly 500k, when will it stop?

Orthopaedics represents the largest percentage of the current 4m+ NHS waiting list, worsening 25% over the last 5 years, and for those patients still waiting over a year worsening 300% over the same period, Orthopaedic activity is a core speciality when trying to understand your local NHS hospital performance. With over c1.6million episodes of care per year costing the tax payer c£4 billion, and 15% of the budgets of NHS General & Acute Hospitals, Hip & Knee replacements remain the most popular inpatient procedure (20% of total) and carpal tunnel release a very popular daycase operation (9%)
